Pacificers will be able to survive the fall of the asteroid and the explosion of the supernova
Scientists often think about whether people will survive some terrible catastrophe. Well, for example, what will become of us if a giant asteroid from space crashes to Earth? Or will the sun go out? Chances in people are not very many, but they have plenty of quiet tidbits – to such conclusions came the researchers of Oxford University after a series of experiments.
The hikers are very unpretentious and can survive even in rather harsh conditions. For example, they were somehow frozen for 30 years, and then they got it, thawed it back and found that they were alive and well, they wanted and, most importantly, could multiply. They also felt great in other difficult conditions, for example, under the influence of high temperature and on the ocean floor.
To find out what other amazing creatures are capable of, scientists from Oxford University recreated in the laboratories conditions close to those that can arise on our planet after some catastrophe. Researchers have chosen possible scenarios, including a supernova outburst, a giant asteroid and gamma-ray bursts. After a series of experiments, they came to the conclusion that the quiet tidbits seem to have every chance of surviving the human race.
There is no need to wait for an asteroid in the near future, and the gamma-ray burst, capable of killing these invertebrates, should also happen close enough from the Earth, which is not yet planned. The explosion of the supernova must also be strong enough and occur near the Earth, and for the time being the available variants can not cause harm to the slow-moving ones, because they tolerate fairly strong radiation and can quite comfortably exist at the bottom of the oceans near underwater volcanoes, for example. The steamships were able to persevere all scientists with trials, which in turn gave the researchers new food for thought.
“It seems that if life has already started somewhere, destroying it becomes quite difficult,” says Dr. David Slovan, one of the authors of the study.
Scientists noted that their research points to the possibility of the existence of life on other planets, because if there are such stable guys on the Earth as slow-moving people, what can prevent them from living and feeling great somewhere else?
